iPhone 16 Pro: How to safely clean the USB-C port!

iPhone 16 Pro : How to safely clean the USB-C port!

Since the iPhone 15, Apple has replaced the Lightning connector with USB-C. The new iPhone 16 Pro also relies on this versatile standard. To ensure your device charges and transfers data reliably, the connector should be cleaned regularly – but please be careful to avoid damage.

Why cleaning is important

Over time, lint, dust, or small dirt particles accumulate in the USB-C port – especially if you often carry your iPhone in your pocket.
The consequences can be:

  • Charging problems or loose contacts

  • Slow data transfer

  • Faster wear of the connection

This is what you need

  • Wooden or plastic toothpicks (no metal tools!)

  • Compressed air spray (optional, for careful use only)

  • Soft, lint-free microfiber cloth

  • Good lighting or a small flashlight

Step-by-step instructions

1. Turn off iPhone

Before you begin, turn off your iPhone completely to avoid short circuits.

2. Inspect the socket

Carefully examine the inside with a flashlight to see if any lint or dust has settled.

3. Dry clean

Carefully remove the dirt with a wooden or plastic toothpick.
Tip: Always work along the edge, do not press deep into the center.

4. Use compressed air (optional)

If available, hold the compressed air spray at a short distance from the connection at a slight angle and blow into it briefly.
Caution : Only give short bursts to avoid condensation.

5. Follow-up check

Check again with the flashlight to make sure all particles have been removed.

You should avoid this

  • Do not use paper clips or metal pins → risk of scratches or short circuits

  • Do not bring any liquids into the connection

  • Do not scratch or press too hard

How often should you clean?

In most cases, it's sufficient to check the USB-C port every 2–3 months . If you're experiencing charging issues, a quick check every now and then is worth it.

💡 Extra tip:
If you often carry your iPhone in dusty environments or in your pockets without a case, a small dust plug for the USB-C port can help.
